Wright / Brazier Family

There were three Wright brothers that came to America in the 1600s, The first TO THE JERSEY SHORE OF THE DELAWARE The `Flie Boat Martha` from Hull, England arrived `at the end of Summer 1677`With the first of the Wright brothers Thomas Wright. Thomas purchased (memorandum of deed 10 May 1677) one-fourth of a proprietary of land in West New Jersey, part of the ten shares of Thomas Hutcheson, Thomas Peirson, Joseph Helmsley, George Hutcheson, and Mahlon Stacy. Joshua Wright with his wife and children Elizabeth, Joshua Jr, and Robert emigrated from Ashford-in-the-Water, Bakewell parish, Derbyshire, England. They embarked for West New Jersey at Hull, England 6 mo.(August) 24, 1679 and arrived at the falls of the Delaware (now Trenton) about 10 mo. (December) 20. 1679. Samuel Wright emigrated with his brother Joshua Wright, embarking at Hull, England, August 1679 with his wife and children, Alice and Samuel. His daughter Mary was apparently born at sea 9 mo. (October) 25, 1679. Her birth was recorded in the minutes of Burlington MM. The Wright families owned a large portion of New Jersey by the time Anthony and his brothers, James and Enoch, moved to Clearfield Co., Pennsylvania. Their Father Jacob lived with Anthony until about 1836 when Anthony and Nancy Cleaver Wright moved to Missouri. On Nov 4, 1880 his great grandson Arthur Marion Wright was born in Miller Co., Missouri. On Dec 18, 1905 married Florence Alma Brazier uniting the Wright and Brazier families. Florence Alma Brazier was born Oct 16, 1888 in Maries Co., Missouri. She was the daughter of William and Eliza Jane Pearson Brazier. Williams mother was Susan West and his father was Francis Marion Brazier. His father was killed in the Civil War. It is said that he had asked for leave when he heard that bushwhackers had burned his home and when his leave was denied he took it upon himself to leave anyway, he swam across the river and when he reached the other side he was shot and killed for desertion. The family past down the information that William was one eighth Indian. With a lot of research we came to the conclusion that his grandmother Nancy Berry was half Indian. Florence Almas mother would not let anyone know that William was part Indian.
