The abstractor of these records stated that many of the church members were excluded in 1832; there was some type of disagreenent, a council of various churches was held in 1833 and both sides were chastised - those excluded were accepted back.

Note I feel that the above couple is your Stephen and Elizabeth. Phoebe Paine Loveland (wife of Artemus, older bro. of Rachel and Elizabeth) was also a member of this Church. Donna Burdick

The above is from a letter to Eugene (Gene) O'Meara5 (Stella WOOD,4 Alva WOOD,3 Byron WOOD,2 Stephen WOOD1) from Donna Bridock, a copy of which Gene sent me. Robin G Forrest

I do not know exactly when Stephen arrived in Madison County. However, he left in about 1840 when they asked for the letter of dismission metioned above. I believe Betsey became ill and they moved to Salem, Mercer, Pennyslvania, to be closer to Elizabeth's father, as her mother had died 11 April 1809 in Smithfield, Madison, New York.

In 1845 Pliny COLTON, Christopher SILVER, Artemus SILVER, Daniel TREE, Thomas STEWART, Stephen WOOD, and George MEARS, with their families, left Pennsylvania to seek homes in the far west. They traveled by steamboat down the Ohio and up the Mississippi river to Galena, and thence overland to Green county, and soon the larger number of them chose land in what is now Mount Pleasant, and settled down to begin life anew. They first lived in Jefferson upon a farm owned by Joseph Forbes. They afterwards removed to the village of Exeter, where they resided a number of years. This is where his daughter Moroa died at the age of 14 years 6 months on the 20th of October 1845.

Stephen WOOD and son William purchased 40 acres of land from Mineral Point land office (the United States Government) on 10 April 1848. Stephen WOOD sold land to his son William 20 Sep. 1848, listing as Stephen's wife Electa. {this must be a second wife and this is the only place I have been able to find any mention of her Stephen's first wife Betsy LOVELAND died in Pennsylvania in 1843-RF} William WOOD sold property in Green, County Wisconsin in 1849, to his uncle (his mother's sisters husband) Daniel M. TREE.

They then moved to Mt. Pleasant where Stephen died 15 July 1872.
