Walter is an Army Veteran of World War II and a Pruple Heart recipient. He retired as a rural mail carrier in Clear Lake, Iowa, and has lived in The Villages for the past 20 years. He was a member of Chapel of Christian Faith and American Legion Post 347, Lady Lake, and a past member of Lady Lake Lions.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Theone Wood of Lady Lake; sons, Russell (Judy) Wood of Palm Bay, Fla., Richard Wood of Leesburg, Fla., and Rae (Carolyn) Wood of Merritt Island, Fla.; sisters, Arlene Barber, Clear Lake, Iowa, Pauline Rumeloite, Mason City, Iowa, and Barbara (Leslie) Davis of Coeur D?Alene, Idaho; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by parents, Harvey and Blanche Wood; a son, Ronald Wood; a brother, Dale Wood; and a sister, Kathryn Laskowski.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Chapel of Christian Faith, The Villages, with Pastors Emerson Ross and Charles Holmes offiiciating. Interment will be at 2 p.m at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Chapel of Christian Faith Building Fund, 1411 Paradise Drive, Lady Lake, Fla. 32159.
