George SHORS, son of John and Mary (SEDLACEK) SHORES, and Catherine (SHAW) SHORS, the daughter of Albert J., and Genevieve (MURPHY) SHAW, were both born in and received their early education in Pocahontas.
John and Mary SHORS, Georges parents were lifelong residents of Phcahontas County, spending their early married life on a farm east of Pocahontas. When they moved into town, Mr SHORS engaged in the real estate business. Mr and Mrs SHORS also had a daughter Lucy, (who married Martin ALEXANDER) who still lives in Pocahontas.
Albert and Genevieve SHAW were both born in Iowa, Mr. SHAW on his parents homestead (Mr. and Mrs. P.J. SHAW) east of Plover, and Mrs. SHAW in Iowa City. Mrs SHAW was a teacher in the local high school when she met and married Mr. SHAW, an attorney and state senator. Mr. and Mrs. SHAW had three boys, Frank, Albert, and Robert who are all deceased, and another daughter Eleanor, who married Lawrence FLAHERTY, and lives in Pocahontas.
Mr. and Mrs George SHORES were married in 1936. They both graduated from college in 1935, George from the Drake University Law School and Catherine from the State University of Iowa Commerce School. After their marriage, they lived in Rolfe for three years, and moved back to Pocahontas in 1939. Mr SHAW has engaged in the practice of law in Pocahontas since that time, and Mrs SHAW spent many years as his secretary.
To this union were born four children John -- a graduate of Iowa State University and also the State University of Iowa Law School, Sue -- a graduate of Iowa State University, Richard -- a graduate of the State University of Iowa Law School, and David -- a graduate of Buena Vista College.
