Albert Josiah was born August 1876; in Dayton, Green, Wisconsin. and married, Genevieve B. MURPHY, the daughter of William MURPHY, of Iowa City, Iowa. Albert died 10 October 1952 in Iowa.

SHAW succeeds Ralph YOUNG, De Moines, who died recently. The term runs until Juyne 30 1955, at a salrey of $5,000 a year.
Albert Josiah SHAW, school teacher, attorney, legislator, and public servant was born 1876 at Dayton, (Green County), Wisconsin the son of Prentice and Jennie A. SHAW, and died 10 October 1952, as a result of a cerebral hemmorage on 6 July of the same year.
In 1882 he came with his parents to Iowa and spent his childhood mainly on a farm in Powhatan Township. He received his elementary and high school education in Rolfe and Plover, and attended Cornell College, Mt. Vernon. After a short period of teaching, he went to Des Moines where he received a Doctor of Law degree from Drake University in 1901. After precticing law in Corwith a short time, he returned to Pocahontas, where he practiced law for over half a century.
He was Pocahontas County attorney for 10 years and for 12 years he served the 50th district in the State Senate. During this tenure, he was the author of many important pieces of legislation, the most outstanding being the Homestead Credit Law. At the time of his death he was serving as Industrial Commissioner of Iowa.
In 1908 he married Genevieve B. MURPHY of Iowa City who was a local high school teacher of mathematics and Latin. She was very musical, and for many years she was organist at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church.
To this union were born three sons, Frank and Albert Jr., attorneys of Pocahontas, and Robert, a school teacher in Iowa, and two daughters, Catherine (Mrs. George A. SHORS) and Eleanor (Mrs Lawrence FLAHERTY), both also of Pocahontas.
From a resolution passed by the 55th General Assembly in the Senate the following is Quoted:
"'Burt,' as he was affectrionately known, was an outstanding
Christian gentleman, one who took an active interest and a
full part in all affairs, not only of his community and country,
but also of the State. To this end he devoted untiringly of his
time and energy in promoting the finer things of life and will
be affectionately remembered by all who knew him, and most
especially to the authors of this resolution."
"THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 55TH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF IOWA: That in the death of the Hon. Albert Josiah
Shaw, the state has lost a valued and honored servant and by
this resolution tenders it sincere sympathy to the surviving
members of the family."
"BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That a copy of this resolution be
spread upon the Journal of the Senate"
