Dwight was born 16 Jun 1833 in Smithfield, Madison, New York. He married 27 Feb 1859 Rosilla HEATHEMAN, the daughter of Hiram HEATHEMAN and Prescilla MOODY, in Mt Pleasant, Green, Wisconsin. She was born about 1840 in Ohio.

Dwight WOOD, Monroe, Wisconsin, member of G. A. R. Post No. 112 was born 16 June 1833, at Smithfield, Madison County, New York. His father Stephen WOOD, married Betsey Loveland and they had six children all of whom are living (1890) execpt one named Elizabeth. [Stephen and Betsey had 8 children an unnamed son born abt 1819 and enumerated in the 1820 census who died before 1830 and Moroa born abt September 1831 and died 28 Oct 1845 she is burried in the Exeter Cemetery, Exeter township, Green, Wisconsin daughter Elizabeth Osgood WOOD died 16 August 1881 Mount Pleasant RF]. A{ndrus} L. WOOD enllisted in Company H, 8th Wisconsin Infantry and was discharged for disability after two years; he reenlisted in Company D, 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery and served nearly two years. Maria was third [forth RF] in order of birth and married Richard McGOON; [Moroa died young RF]; William; Dwight; and B{yron} L. are the others. both father and mother belonged to New England stock, identified with the first history of the country. They moved to Mercer County, Pennsylvania, in 1840, locating on a farm and four years after went to Exeter, Green County, Wisconson, and finally removed to Monticello, where the father died in 1879 at the age of 78; the mother died in 1840. [Stephen (the father) died 15 August 1872, Mt Pleasant Twp., at age of 78 and Betsey died abt 1842 in Mercer co., Pennsylvania RF]. Mr WOOD found himself obliged to take care of himself after comming to Wisconsin, assumint the responsibilities of self-maintanance and self-training when 11 years old. He worked summers and for his board winters, going to school and since the age mentioned he has lived in Exeter, and Mount Pleasant until 1887, when he moved September 1st to Monroe. He has operated most of the time in the two-fold capacity of farmer and mason. He was married in 1858 at Mount Pleasant to Rosella, daughter of Hiram and Priscilla (MOODY) HEATHMAN. She was born in 1843 and her parents were natives of Ohio; she is one of several children and the oldest; the others are Hiram, Valinda, Elmus, Clarissa, Samantha, and George. All are living. The children of Mr. and Mrs. WOOD numbered eight, two of whom died young. Six are living and are Edward, Jennette, Adelaide, Albert Ida and Almeda; Henry died at six and Elma at three years of age. [Henry born 27 September 1861 died 28 March 1863 according to Green co. Wisconsin Vital Records and Cemetery records. Elma (Alana) born 22 June 1869 died 1 October 1870 same record sources. RF].

>Mr. WOOD enlisted from Madison and was credited from Montrose in Augest 1864. He enroled in Company D, 1 stWisconsin heavy Artillery, was mustered at Madison and went thence to Fort Barwick, Louisiana, where the battery was stationed almost six months on garrison duty. They went next to Brashear City and remained in garrison duty until the spring of 1865*, when all that needed medical treatment were erdered to report North. Mr WOOD was amoung those and he went to Marine Hospital at Memphus, going on a hispital boat to St. Louis and thence on the "Jennie Hopkins" to Prarie du Chien, where he was Placed in Swift's hospital until discharged July 29 1865. He returned to Monticello and two years elapsed before he was able to work. He bought a farm which he occupied four years, sold it and bought another in Mount Pleasant which he occupied one year. He sold again bought in the immediate vicinity of Monticello and after three years he removed to Monticello, retaining ownership of his farm. He redided there about 14 years when he fixed his residence at Monroe. His health is such that he is able to do little labor. He is a man of excelleint character.
