Charles H Baxter being by me duly sworn Says:
I am aged 49 yearsMy Post Office address is Monticello, Green, Wis. I was a private in Co. H 8 Regt., of Wis. Inft, Vols. I was well acquainted with Andress L Wood who was a Sergt. in said Co., while I was in the service I was intimately acquainted with him many years before we enslisted. He was during that time and at the time of his enlistment an unusually robust strong healthy man, and had no disease that I know of. He kept in good health up to the time he was attacked by measels at or near Pilot Knob , Mo., in the month of Nov. 1861 he was then and there attacked by measels. He was then ordered to the hospital but the hospital was not fit for such cases, as he was very bad, and he was placed in a private house near by where he remained till he gor better. I was up to the house to see him while he was at the privat house. He was then very sickwith the measles. I saw the Dr. of the Regt. go up there to see him at that time, and saw the Capt., of the Co., also go there to see him. I saw the Dr. when he came back at one time and asked him how Wood was, and he said he was having the measles pretty hard but he had a comfortable place and he thought he would get through. I understood from the Dr. that Wood was there in the private house with his approval. I recollect that Wood had the diarrhaea very bad at the time he had the measeld and as stated.I think from my recollection that he was at said private house under the treatment of Regt. Dr. and Surgen, for three or four weeks He was unable to do duty for some time after he returned to the Co. on account of his weakness. I remained with the Regt. till about the middle of April 1862 and I recollect he did not recover his health during that time. I am disinterested in the prosocution of his clainm for a pension.
