Maximilian was born 4 October 1607 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, christened 31 December 1608 in Bradford, Yorkshire England, and married first, about 1642, in Rowley, Essex, Massachusetts, Anna COLE the daughter of Thomas COLE and Margareta DALE. She was christened 5 March 1606 in Settrington, Yorkshire, England and died 9 November 1667, in Rowley, Essex, Massachusetts, He married second 30 August 1671, Ellenor PELL the widow of John BOYINGTON. Maximilian died 19 October 1683, in Rowley, Exxex, Massachusetts.
Maximilian JOWETT1, Deacon, second son of Edward and Mary Jowett, was born in Bradford, England, baptized October 4, 1607. He and his brother Joseph came to Rowley in 1639 with the Rev. Ezekiel Rogers and a colony of Puritan families that had sailed in 1638 from Hull, England, in the ship "John of London". After spending the winter in Salem or Dorchester they founded the town of Rowley in the spring of 1639. Maximilian and his brother Joseph came to America as men "of good estate", lovers of liberty with well defined religious views. His signature to the inventory of Richard Bailey of Rowley in 1684 is on file at Salem and shows that he still used the spelling "Jowett". In time, the Jewett spelling was more commonly used and adopted by the American descendants.
Deacon Maximilian was sworn a freeman May 13, 1640, and had a two-acre house lot in 1643 on Bradford Street. He was very active in town affairs, a deputy to the General Court many times, served on the grand jury and trial jury, and was one of the first two deacons of the Rowley Church, ordained December 3, 1639. His wife Ann who came with him to Rowley was buried November 9, 1667, and he married (2) August 30, 1671, Ellen (Pell) Boynton, widow of John Boynton of Rowley. Deacon Jewett died there and was buried October 19, 1684, leaving a long will. His widow married (3) at Ipswich, June 1, 1686, Daniel Warner Sr. A bronze tablet 30 by 22 inches, weighing 80 pounds, cast at the foundry established by Paul Revere and attached to a huge boulder from the Jewett farm, marks the resting place of Maximilian and Joseph.
