Jonathan was born 16 July 1637 in Plymouth. Plymouth, Massachusetts and married first 9 January 1659 in Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts, Elizabeth ROGERS, the daughter of Joseph ROGERS and Hannah _______. She was born 29 September 1639 in Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts and died 1678 in Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts.
He married second July 1679, in Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts, Hannah ROGERS, the daughter of Joseph ROGERS and Hannah _______. She was born 8 August 1652, in Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts and died after 18 Oct 1690, in Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts.
Jonathan died after 27 May 1711 in , , Massachusetts.
Hannah was his second wife. First wife was her sister, Elizabeth, as mentioned in court records as being fined for his relationship "with his wife's sister after his wife's death."
Note:
He moved with his family from Plymouth to Eastham at age 8, and when he was 16, his father died, so then he lived with his Grandfather from whom he inherited land.
He was appointed Ensign of the military company of Eastham on May12, 1675, he resigned in 1681.
He was made "freeman" in 1683, and he lived in Dover, Portsmouth, New Hampshire and he worked on a ketch out of Newcastle, N. H. in 1684.
Widowed between 1677 and 1679, he carried on a scandelous affairwith his former wife's sister and was fined for his conduct, but then hemade it right by marrying her.
Note:
A military company was early formed and equipped. The officers were: captain, Mark Snow; lieutenant, Jonathan Higgins: and ensign, Jonathan Bangs.
The town's proportion of a troop of horse was also raised. Thomas Prince and Edward Bangs agreed to find a man and horse each, at their own expense, for two years, three being the number for this town.
Jonathan Higgins married Elizabeth Rogers, 1660, and had four sons, Beniah, Jonathan, Joseph and James.
