Charles was born 24 February 1775 in Groton, New London, Connecticut the son of Simeon SMITH and Eunice WALWORTH, and married, 11 March 1801, in Lyme, New London, Connecticut, Lois PARSONS, the daughter of John PARSONS by his first wife Joanna MATHER. Lois was born 25 November 1779 and died 24 March 1819 in Lyme, New London, Connecticut.

Charles married second his first wifes half sister 25 March 1821, in Lyme, New London, Connecticut, Phebe PARSONS, the daughter of John PARSONS and his second wife Lois WAITE, his mothers niece. Phebe was born 15 April 1790 in Lyme, New London, Connecticut.

Charles died 17 January 1840.
