She was born 22 May 1790 in Hebron, Washington, New York, and died 7 Dec 1837, in Peoria, Peoria, Illinois. He married second 22 September 1840 in Peoria County, Illinois, Almira CHAMBERLAIN, the daughter of Stephen CHAMBERLAIN and Prudence POOR. She was born 15 January 1809 in Kirby, Caledonia, Vermont, died 20 June 1887 near Persia, Harrison, Iowa and is buried in the Shelby Cemetery, in Shelby Twp., Shelby, Iowa. Ichabod died 3 Nov 1856 in Peoria, Peoria. Illinois and is buried in the Lehigh Cemetery, Elmwood, Peoria, Illinois.
1 Note The birth record of Ichabod SMITH in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts states his mother to be Sarah Passine. Jan HALL listed below is a descendant of Ichabod and she has family records which state that as a young boy Ichabod was sent to live with his Uncle Abel PASCO who lived in Washington County, New York. So It makes sence that Ichabod's mother would have been his older sister Sarah, and that Pasco was miss read as Passine when the birth records were typed for more legability as the record that states Passine is a typed copy not the original hand written one. Ichabod Smith was born in Springfield, Mass., July 19th, 1782. His father dying in his infancy, (probably even before his birth RGF) he was taken and reared by his uncle, Able Pasko, who lived near Sandy Hill, N.Y. In 1803 he went to that part of Tioga Co., Penn., that was afterwards Covington Township. He was married April 17, 1809, to Anna Harkness who was born in Hebron, Washington Co., N.Y., May 22, 1790. She removed to Bradford Co., Penn., in 1806. There were born unto them in Tioga County, five children, Harriet, Abner, William, Roxana and Edson. In 1817 Ichabod moved with his family to Richland Co., Ohio, where were born Betty, David, and James M. In 1824 they moved to Crawford Co., Ohio where were born Sarah, Sophronia, Martha and Ichabod Russell. During his twenty years of residence in Ohio he bought and cleared three farms in the heavily timbered country. Ichabod's oldest son, Abner, went to Illinois with his grandfather, James Harkness, in 1832 when he was 21 years old. After having walked back to Ohio in 1834, on a visit to his parents, Abner returned to Illinois and settled in Peoria county. He married Eliza Ann Doyel March 10, 1835. James Harkness (Anna's father, Abner's grandfather) died in 1836 and was buried in the Harkness Grove Cemetery, Peoria Co., Illinois. Ichabod, Anna and eight children moved to Peoria Co., Illinois in 1837, five years after their son, Abner. In less than a year, on Dec. 7, 1837 Anna, his wife, died and was buried in the Harkness Grove Cemetery beside her father. In September, 1840, Ichabod married Mrs. Almira Aldrich, who was born in Kirby, Vermont, Jan 15, 1809. There were born unto them three children, Myron, Laura, and Lucy. On Nov. 3, 1856, almost seventy-four years of age, like a sheaf of wheat fully ripe, he passed peacefully away. Anna Harkness, the third child of James, was born May 22, 1790. She lived with her parents successively in Hebron and Salem, New York, and in Smithfield, Bradford Co., Pennsylvania. There she met and married Ichabod Smith in 1809. The couple lived in Pennsylvania for eight years where their first five children were born. In 1817 the family moved to Richland Co., Ohio where three more children were born. Seven years later they moved to Crawford Co., Ohio and begot four more children, twelve in all. After moving to Illinois in 1837, along with eight of her children and Ichabod, she died a few months later. Several of her descendants have lived in Elmwood and vicinity. On the west side of the square in Elmwood the hardware store has printed on the awning "Edson Smith and Sons",merchantmen who were direct descendants of Anna Harkness Smith. Going back in history, Anna through the Edson family, could trace her ancestry to Francis Cooke, who came over on the Mayflower. Mrs. May M. Woodside. James Harkness, (1759-1836), was placed on the pension roll of Illinois 1832, for the service Mrs. Amelia Gibbs Upton."Ichabod SMITH Background"
