Noble Township - Created by act of the Michigan State Legislature effective March 19, 1845. Formerly a part of Bronson Township, many of its citizens had served as officials of that township before the separation. The naming of the new township is attributed to numerous persons. Darius Wilson and William Rippey are both said to have proposed the name because it covered "noble" country. Probably, however, the name originated with James Anderson who came here from Noble County, Indiana. The first township meeting and election were held at the house of John Grove on April 7, 1845. The meeting was called to order by Ambrose Hale nominating E.W. Craig as Moderator; this was agreeable. Sidney Marble was elected Clerk, and A. Hale, Sr., A. Hale, Jr., William Butts, William Rippey, and Sidney Marble were named the first Board of Election.
Note Ambrose Sr. is son of Ambrose HALE and Mercy DABY born 1784 and Ambrose HALE Jr. is the son of Jacob HALE and Rousina BEEBE, Jacob and Ambrose Sr are brothers. RF
