Seth was born 24 August 1826, Boome, Schoharie, New York, and married 11 April 1847 in Lorain County, Ohio, Malvina P. PHIPPS the daughter of John and Deborah ?? PHIPPS. She was born 1827 and died 1919 in Elyria, Lorain, Ohio. Seth died 8 November 1906 in Elyria, Lorain, Ohio. He was a blacksmith and inventor. They are both burried in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Elyria, Lorain, Ohio.

A.H. Mooers of Ridgeville, OH had a chair works. There was a saw mill of his and south of it was a building used exclusively by Mr. Mooers "for the manufacture of an implement called the "Griffin Land Leveler"...."of which Mr. Seth Griffin of Elyria, is the patentee".    "It is a combined roller, harrow and scraper, and is used for leveling roads and tracks, and for preparation of land for seeding."
