He returned to La Porte, picked up his family, and brother John, and set out for their new home. While crossing the Fox River in Illinois, their wagon overturned, resulting in a fracture of his wife's arm. The broken arm was properly adjusted and they came on to Johnstown, Rock County, where his brother-in-law, Matthew W. PATTON lived. He and his brother continued to their claim, arriving in the middle of September, and spent a night at the log house of Sam LANGDON. Here, they built a log house before returning to Rock County for their family.
