Ervin was married on 05-18-1838 in Indiana to Harriet GRIFFIN, [04-14-1817], Schoharie County, New York, who died [08-11-1854], at age of 37. She was the daughter of Seth GRIFFIN. Ervin had a second marriage on 04-02-1855 to Louisa Ann WELLS [04-20-1829], Chenango County, New York, daughter of Asa WELLS, who died [11-02-1850], aged 79. They had four children: Asa Ervin 12-22-1856]; John S. [09-12-1860]; Sanford H. [04-03-1863]; and Harriet V. [11-23-1865]. Ervin McCall located on his land in 1845; his brother, John D. McCALL, unmarried, who was in partnership with him, died [02-26-1851], age 40. Section 1, 201 acres.

Late in April, 1845, Ervin McCALL came here from La Porte, Indiana. On the first day of May, he deposited the money for the entry of eighty acres of land at the sub-land office at Fox Lake. He returned to La Porte, picked up his family, and brother John, and set out for their new home. While crossing the Fox River in Illinois, their wagon overturned, resulting in a fracture of his wife's arm. The broken arm was properly adjusted and they came on to Johnstown, Rock County, where his brother-in-law, Matthew W. PATTON lived. He and his brother continued to their claim, arriving in the middle of September, and spent a night at the log house of Sam LANGDON. Here, they built a log house before returning to Rock County for their family.
