Thomas was born 3 October 1658, in Simsbury, Hartford, Connecticut, the son of John GRIFFIN and Anna BANCROFT, and married Mar 1693, in Simsbury, Hartford, Connecticut, Elizabeth WELTON the daughter of Ephriam GRIFFIN and Elizabeth ADAMS. She was born 1673 in Simsbury, Hartford Connecticut, and died 28 September 1722, in Simsbury. John died 28 August 1719 in Simsbury.

A few manufactures joined the sawmills and gristmills along the local streams and the Farmington River during the first half of the 19^th century.

David ELLSWORTH of Windsor bought Thomas GRIFFIN's gristmill on the Farmington River in 1804. During the next fifty years, various owners and lessees operated a gristmill, a sawmill, a distillery, machinery for manufacturing spoons, and carding machines at the site. (Carding machines were replacing hand cards for combing wool to prepare it for spinning.) By 1850 two millers, Albert CLARK and Henry A. CASE, were running the gristmill. With three millstones, they ground 37,500 bushels of grain into flour and meal thet year. CASE and his brother Edward B. owned and operated the mill from 1855 to 1874, when Henry became sole owner. By then they had added or reactivated a sawmill and replaced the old up-and-down saw with an improved circular one, the first in the area according to the Encyclopedia of Connecticut Biography.
