BackGround: Preston Temple, Preston, England.
Joseph was born 15 September 1804 in Rodborough, Gloucestershire, England, and Christened 6 October 1804 in the Calvanistic Methodist Church in Rodborough. He is the son of Joseph FISHER and Sarah DALBY. He married about 1827 in Glorstershire England, Esther GURNER or EVANS, the daughrer of William GURNER and Esther EDGELOE or EGGELO. She was born about 1805 in Stroud, Gloucestershire, England, and died before 1851, in Stroud, Gloucestershire, England. She is called Esther EVANS in the birth/christening record of their oldest daughter, Emily Ann, in Rodborough, Calvenistic Methodist Church, Gloucestershire, England, but is metioned in the willl of her Father William GURNER in 1837 wife of Joseph FISHER, tailor, also the death record of her son Joseph Gurner FISHER states his mother is Esther GURNER.
Joseph Norris Married second about 1853 Mary E. HALL the daughter of Perez HALL Jr. and Ruth HICKS, She was born 8 November 1830 in Bloomfield, Ontario, New York and died 20 April 1910 (age 79y, 6m, 12d) in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan. and had three more children by her which answers the question of the relationships of Charles D; Chauncy H; and Leo P. H. they are the half brothers to the other children. He died 1892/3 in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan.
The Note gives a list of Names of relitaves and the leter gives a pedigree sketch on the Fisher Family. States that Joseph G has a brother Chauncy H. I can find no record of him in England . they also mention no wifes name for Joseph G. but mention his children Mrs. Wenifred FULLER/TULLER; Mrs Cora DOLEN; and Frank Joseph and wife Augusta V.; Also Leo and Alfred W. and his daughter Faith. all of Grand Rapids Michigan. with no specific reference as to how these last three mentioned are related
Information garnered from Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, give more information and give us a better picture of the relationship of all the individuals mentioned in the above note and letter also Information from Two Rivers, Manitowoc, Wisconsin where Joseph Norris and his son Joseph Gurner ended up after emigrating to the US from Gloucestershire England. Also his son William A. came over sometime between 1850 and 1860. Both Joseph G. and William A fought in the Civil War and after the War William Alfred started going by Alfred W. or Alfred William which answers the relationship of the Alfred W. mentioned in the note above.
The 1900 census states that Joseph Gurner FISHER came to this country in 1847. So this is also the same time that Joseph Norris came here because they probably came here together after his wife Esther GURNER died back in England.
Stroud or Stroudwater is 30 miles from Bristol, 14 from Cheltenham and nine from Gloucester City. It was the centre of the clothing trade in 1830, with mills every few hundred yards on every river. In the census of 1821 the parish had 7,097 inhabitants.

Perez HALL and Ruth HICKS, both of T., Mar. 4, 1813, in Taunton
Was organized in the year 1848...
Another short interim followed his resignation lasting until the arrival of Rev. George W. Thompson, in August 1853, he coming from Cincinnati to take up the work. At this time a mission was maintained at Robinson’s settlement and the local church included thirty-three communicants. His ministry, however, was short for in 1854, while nursing cholera patients he fell ill of the dread disease and died on October 14th, his body being interred at Evergreen. After two months he was succeeded by Rev. Melancthon Hoyt, who had heen in Wisconsin as a missionary since the early forties. A man of great energy he soon had the church in a very satisfactory condition and in the next year Bishop Kemper confirmed a class of eleven at Manitowoc and four at Two Rivers. At the latter place there had been organized St. Paul’s Congregation and the cornerstone of a church was laid on September 3, 1856. The first officers of the church were William Aldrich, senior warden; J. N. Fisher, junior warden; L. S. House, J. Teele and M. McDonald, vestrymen and services were held every Sunday afternoon. At Manitowoc the worshippers at St. James soon paid off the $500 debts still outstanding and additions were made to their structure at a considerable cost. During Rev. Hoyt’s ministry the communicants increased to forty-three and the Sunday school remained prosperous. In the latter part of 1858 he resigned, continuing his labors in other fields for many years, finally removing to Dakota Territory. In April 1859 Rev. W. H. Cooper was sent to Manitowoc and remained until the following March, when he renioved to Waukegan, Ill. He, also, officiated at Two Rivers, where the church had been completed, so as to seat three hundred persons, the last of the debt incurred in its construction being paid off some four years later.
