Chamberlin, Preston S., of Bradford, son of Abner and Mary (Haseltine) Chamberlin, was born in Newbury, Nov. 28, 1832.

Educated in the common schools and at Newbury Seminary, he remained on his father's farm until the age of twenty-one, when he removed to the town of Bradford, where he has since resided.

He is a Republican and has been elected to fill several town offices and in 1890 represented his town in the Legislature. A trustee of Bradford Academy for fifteen years, he is strongly interested in the cause of education.

Mr. Chamberlin enlisted in the United States service in May, 1861, under the first call of President Lincoln, being a member of the Bradford Guards. For the first two months of the war he served as sergeant in Co. D, 1st Vt. Vols. Upon the call for nine months' men in 1862, he enlisted in the 12th Regt. and went out as captain of Co. H, (Bradford Guards) and was mustered out with the regiment. Captain Chamberlin was a charter member of Washburn Post, G. A. R, No. 17, and for several years its Commander.

He married Hannah S., daughter of George W. and Rebecca (Mussey) Corliss of Bradford, Jan. 17, 1857. They have three daughters: Annie (wife of C. E. Spalding), Mary H. (wife of George R. Grant), and Edith Julia.

Capt. Preston S. CHAMBERLIN was born in Newbury in 1832. He received a common school education, and remained on his father's farm until twenty years old. At the age of twenty-one years he settled on Goshen road, in this town, where he now resides. In January, 1856, he married Hannah S. CORLISS, and they have three children, viz.: Annie, Mary H. and Edith. In 1858, at the organization of the Bradford guards, Mr. CHAMBERLIN was one of the first to enlist. Under the first call of the President, in 1861, this company enlisted for three months, during which time Captain CHAMBERLIN served as .sergeant. In 1862, on the call for nine months' men, he enlisted in the 12th Vermont regiment, and went out as captain of the Bradford guards (Co. H,) and served until the expiration of his term of service, being mustered out in 1863, since which time he has given his attention to the cultivation of his farm. He has been elected to the offices of selectman and overseer of the poor, and is now serving his town as lister.

     He was born in Oxford, Mass.; died in Newbury, Vt..
 
Jonathan CORLISS (1730-76) served as private in the Vermont troops.
     He was born in Haverhill,  Mass.; died in Isleau Noix, Canada.

Emerson CORLISS (1758-1843)  served as private in the  New Hampshire
     Continental Line. He was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts; died 
     in Bradford, Vt.

Benjamin MUZZEY (1747-1820) served as private in the Vermont troops
     under Capts.  John BAYLEY and Simeon STEVENS.  He was born and
     died in Newbury, Vt.
