Mary TAYLOR was born in 1799, in St. Lawrence county, New York. She married in 1815, in New York, WILLIAM CARPENTER.
Mr. CARPENTER was born in New York in 1792 and obtained a common school education. Soon after leaving that port the vessel was injured in a storm and the captain put in at Cleveland, Ohio, where Mr. CARPENTER embarked on another boat. The second vessel was wrecked, but the passengers were landed at Port Huron, Ohio, whence they came by land to Oakland County.
Mr. CARPENTER bought eighty acres in Novi Township and subsequently eighty acres in Lyon Township. He built a house on the latter tract and lived there until his death, in 1878. He was an honest, upright man, with good standing in religious circles being a Deacon in the Baptist Church. Subject: Carpenter Family in Whitehall New York
Message: I am searching for any info regarding the Carpenter Family in Whitehall, Washington Co. NY. I know that my ggg-grandfather, Horace P. Carpenter, married Eleanor Bostwick in Whitehall, New York in September of 1830. My gg-grandfather Dr. Henry H. Carpenter, was born in Nov 1836 in Sandy Hill, Washington Co. NY. The family later settled in Lawrenceville, St. Lawrence Co, New York. Dr. Carpenter married Mary Amanda Burt, in Lawrenceville, NY on May 4, 1868. I am trying to find out the parents of Horace Carpenter, who would be my gggg- grandparents. I have found Census records on Whitehall, which have a William Carpenter and a Nathan Carpenter listed for around that period, which may mean that one of the two is Horace's father, but any help any one can offer would be greatly appreciated
