William died 28 October 1887 in Lyon Twp., Oakland, Michigan.
Obituary found in Oakland County Historical Collection (page 117 of old book tied with ribbon): Wm Carpenter died in New Hudson Oct 28, 1887, age 67, born Porter, Niagara Co., NY in 1818, came to Mi with parents in 1836, resided 2 years in Livingston Co., and moved to in Lyon.
