Sir Thomas Smith, knight, was born about 1468 in of Walter Newton, Northamptonshire, England.

He married Lady Catherine de Brereton (b. 1472 in of Walter Newton, Northamptonshire, England) about 1493. She was the daughter of Sir Andrew Brereton, of Brereton. They had the following children:

--- Sir Lawrence Smith (b. about 1516, d. 23 August 1582.); m Anne Fulleshurst
