Joseph Betts & Abigail Whitney, 29 Nov 1749.
Stamford Farifield Co. Jas. Bettis of Danbury & Pegge Whitney of Norwalk, 25 Jun. 1775Joseph BETTS married Abigail WHITNEY 29 November 1749, at Greens Farms Church, Westport, Connecticut. He is Joseph BETTIS on the 1790 Census, and Joseph "BETTYS" on his will. I have been unable to find where their children were born.
Joseph BETTYS was on the first vestry of Christ Church at its formation in the 1780's in "Ballston."
My ancestor, Joseph Wade, was the son of Asa Wade and Susannah Bettys/Bettis. Susannah Bettis is buried in Burnt Hills Baptist Church Cemetery, Ballston, Saratoga Co., NY. I don't know if Asa is buried here. Joseph Bettys/Bettis is also buried there but I don't know if Abigail is.
Susannah and Asa were married in Ballston on 28 Aug 1791. Asa died in Ballston in May of 1813. Susannah died 16 Jun 1806.
What information do you have on the marriage of Joseph Bettys/Bettis to Abigail Whitney?

Joe Bettys, to whom allusion has been made, was the son of respectable parents residing in the Ballston district. His father, Joseph Bettys, during and subsequent to the war, kept a tavern below what is known as the Delavan farm, upon the farm now occupied by Mr. Lewis Trites. The old man's gravestone may be seen in the cemetery at Burnt Hills. The career of Joseph Bettys, Jr., is an important item in the early history of Ballston. His name, for several years towards the close of the war, was a terror to its inhabitants.

In 1780 another list of members received is given, peculiar in the fact that nineteen husbands and the wives of all of them united at once, - John Cabell, James McCrea, Joseph Morehouse, Samuel Wood, Epenetus White, Matthew Fairchild, James Gordon, John Young, Wm. Barns, Robert Speir, Samuel McCrea, Jabez Gorham, Nathan Raymond, John Wood, Beriah Palmer, Sunderland Sears, Michael Middlebrook, William Bettys, and James Gordon, Jr.
This society was formed at a very early day. The following members, originally connected with the old first church of Stillwater, were set off about 1791 or '92, and were the founders of the present Baptist church of Burnt Hills.

Is the 70 to 80 year old Abigail WHITNEY?
I am trying to identify the parents of this Joseph Bettys, Bettis, or Betts, apparently originally from Connecticut, but may have been from Westchester County, NY, originally.
I keep hoping for feedback from the transcription of this will, written 4 November 1804, and presented for probate on the seventh. Joseph names people who spell it "Bettis" in the Censuses for Saratoga County, NY, and the record of his marriage to Abigail Whitney at Green's Farms (in Westport, CT) calls him Joseph Betts. "Molly Benjamin" was his daughter, first married to Daniel Taylor, then to Josiah Benjamin, Jr. in July 1783. The baptism of their daughter Molly (also called Polly) at the Reformed Dutch Church in Schenectady names the mother "Molly Betteys"and the father Daniel Taylor, and calls the daughter "Molly Betteys," that being her middle name. More follows on this family.
In the Name of God, Amen. I Joseph Bettys of sound mind and memory blessed be God for the same do make this my last will and testament.
I give to my beloved wife the south room of the house wherein I now live and the furniture of the same Room and also a Cow and a horse and hay and pasturing of the said cow and horse and the priviledge of my barn for stabling my said cow and horse. And also twenty pounds a year during her natural life in Satisfaction of her right of Dower out of my estate.
Secondly I also give to my grandson Joseph Bettys son of Joseph Bettys deceased twenty pounds.
Thirdly I give to my son Benjamin two hundred pounds.
Fourthly I give the whole of my estate both real and personal to the following persons equally to be divided between them as follows. To the heirs of William Bettys to be considered as one to Jeremiah Bettys to Abigail Van Vleet to Julietta Smith to Ruth Lothrop to Huldah Rosebush to Susannah Wade to Sally Hollister to Benjamin Bettys and to their heirs and assigns for ever.
Fifthly I do give to Henry Bettys his tuition during the time he shall remain in College and request my Executors to pay the same as it shall become Due.
Lastly I do make constitute and appoint Hermanus Van Vleet Ebenezer Lothrop and Durastus Hollister Executors of this my last will and Testament.
Signed sealed published and declared as my last will and testament and I do hereby revoke all former wills by me heretofore made, this fourth day of November in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and four.
