Joseph was born 16 June 1780 in Canaan, Grafton, New Hampshire and married 6 September 1801 in Canaan, Grafton, New Hampshire, Sarah BASFORD, the daughter of Jonathan BASFORD and Sarah or Rachel LADD. She was born 6 April 1772 in Henniker, Grafton, New Hampshire and died before 1838 in Greenville, Mercer, Pennsylvania.

He married about 1842 Elizabeth Lucina HARMAN the daughter of Martin HARMAN and Tryphena POOLE. She was born 2 July 1797 in Rupert, Bennington, Vermont. She had married Josiah MEACHAM Jr. and they had 3 children ie:
Daniel, born 1825; Lorenzo Dow, born 11 December 1825, Springfield, Erie, Pennsylvania; and Elizabeth Lucina, born 27 February 1836, Delaware, Mercer Pennsylvania and died 5 October 1880

Joseph died 1845 in , Hancock, Illinois.
