John was born about 1733 in New England and married about 1757 in , , New England, Rebecca SMITH, the daughter of Joseph SMITH and Rachel ALFRED. She was born 27 February 1744 and died. John died after 1801 in , Lincoln, Ontario, Canada.

BIOGRAPHY:

On 10 August 1794, John Mills filed a petition for land,stating that he "was formerly an inhabitant of Sussex County, State of New Jersey, and by reason of his attachment to the King and Constitution of Grate Britton lost nearly all what he was possessed of and in the year 1780 or 81 on that account was long imprisoned, indicted and satt in a pilorey for a long time in an extreme cold season that it nearly cost him his life and for a long time rendered him incapable of supporting his family and obliged him to remain in the States in a miserable way."

His character as an honest, industrious man was attested by Nathaniel Pettit. On 7 July 1796 he was recommended for 200 acres and he received Lot 15, Conc 4, Grimsby Twp, Lincoln Co. The lot is located at the top of the Niagara Escarpment, near Forty Mile Creek. In 1801 John Mills was elected Overseer of Roads for Grimsby Twp.

BIOGRAPHY:

Fout of Rebecca's brothers settled in Grimsby, Ontario, as well as herself and her husband.
