In 1830, William and Sarah Hays are found living in Clark County, Illinois. By 1840 they have moved across the Wabash River to Sullivan County, Indiana.

William Hays joined the Mission Baptist Church in Fairbanks, Indiana near Drake Cemetery on 3/28/1836.

Sarah Medsker Hays joined the Mission Baptist Church in Fairbanks, Indiana near Drake Cemetery on 10/12/1839.

1860 US Federal Census: Indiana, Sullivan, Turman. Sarah is Age 53 in the household of Thomas DeWitt MONK

Listed on the 1870 Census for Turman Twp., Sullivan Co., Indiana. Age 63. She is enumerated next door to her son in-law, John MONK. Her sons, John and William Hays worked for John MONK

1880 US Federal Census Indiana, Sullivan County, Turman. Sarah is Age 76, in the home of her son, William HAYS.

Death: Died sometime prior to the notice appearing in the Sullivan Democrat on 2 Dec 1884 (Tues) which reads: Administrator's Notice - Notice is hereby given that the undersigned has been appointed administrator of the estate of Sarah Hays, late of Sullivan County, Indiana, deceased. --Kicked by a Horse--

A man named Peter Hays, who lives near the river in Turman township, was kicked by a horse on the breast, last Sunday, [28 June 1896] producing death in a short time. He made his living by fishing, and is highly spoken of by his acquaintances.
