Anna Belle Briggs, 82, of Traverse City, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday at Munson Medical Center.
Born Oct. 19, 1919, in Coldwater, she was the daughter of James and Pearl McCOOK. On June 20, 1941, in Lansing, she married her high school sweetheart, Ray C. Briggs, recently celebrating their 60 devoted years together.
Anna's husband, Ray, had been employed by Michigan Bell and the Briggs were relocated by them from Lansing to Jackson, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, back to Lansing, and finally to Traverse City where they lived for 23 years. Anna was involved in various activities and was always sharing her faith with others. She spent countless hours praying for her family and many other friends she quickly made while moving from city to city. Her favorite book of the Bible was Psalms, especially chapter 42:1 which reads, "As the deer panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God." Anna had a gift of being able to talk to anyone she met and she often included her bible verses into her conversations. She seemed to favor the M.S.U. football team, also admiring Lou Holtz of Notre Dame for setting a good example for others to measure themselves by.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Briggs; twin sons, R. Ronald (Margo) Briggs of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and R. Donald (Alice) Briggs of Seabrook, Md.; daughter, Kathlene Candice (Edward) Briggs of Battle Creek; brother, John (Elsie) McCook of Lake Odessa; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Robert McCook.
Funeral services will be held at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Saturday at 2 p.m. where friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Pastor Jay Debore from Grand Rapids will be officiating the service.
Burial will be in Rowley Cemetery in Williamston.
In remembrance, memorial contributions may be directed to the Traverse City Christian School.
