AT OAK GROVE--Participants Have Thrilling experience in Catching Train
A pretty double wedding was celebrated at Oak grove last Wednesday evening when Rhita McCOOK and H. Ernest JUBB and Grace L. McCOOK and Charles H READER were married at the home of the young ladies' parents.
About 60 guests were present and many beautiful and useful presents were left showing the high esteem in which the young people are held. The ceremony was performed by Rev.J. W. PASMORE. Both of the young men were former Livingston county boys but have been working at Lansing for some time and have bought homes in that city where they will reside after a wedding trip to Buffalo and Niagara Falls.
The exciting part of the occasion happened when they started for the train. In order to avoid the rice, old shoes etc.. they crossed the mill pond at Oak Grove and started on the other side in a rig for Howell to catch the evening train but the young people of Chemung-town were not to be out done so they started in pursuit but they did not overtake the prey until they had chartered an auto at Howell which made it possible to catch the wedding procession on its way to Ann Pere. The scene that followed was terrific and the "newly weds" were conducted back to Howell, and a large banner was stretched in the P.M. depot which read. "Just Married" and there is little doubt in the minds of the spectators but what every person on the east bound train was aware that the four were making their first trip as members of the married army.
Charles READER and GRACE lived on and worked her brother Robert A's farm a while until March, 1921, when he bought the Claud THAYER farm in Oak Grove.
