Joseph was born 15 January 1724 in Mendon, Worcester Massachusetts and married first 12 February 1752 in Uxbridge, Worcester, Massachusetts. Elizabeth CUMMINGS, the daaughter of _____   _______ and _____   _______. She was born and died 27 Aug 1770 in Uxbridge, Worcester, Massachusetts.

He married second 19 October 1772 in Uxbridge, Worcester, Massachusetts, Abigail MARCH. She was born about 1731 in Uxbridge, Worcester, Massachusetts and died in 11 October 1795 in Uxbridge, Worcester, Massachusetts. Joseph died 3 February 1803 in Uxbridge, Worcester, Massachusetts.

Note:
His marriage to Elizabeth was published 20 Oct 1751.
The Census of1790 shows him at Uxbridge with a household of 3 males, age 16 and upwards, and 3 females.
His second wife Abigail, died at the age of 78.

Joseph was referred to both as Joseph Jr, and Joseph, 3rd, and was also called miller Joseph, by reason of owning a grist mill on Shockalog brook. His house, mill and farm lay just south of the Deacon Gershom Taft place, in Uxbridge. The Massachusetts Revolutionary rolls give the enlistments of two Josephs, from Uxbridge, and it is doubtful to whom one these may refer, but the following is evidently the record of this Taft, Joseph 3rd. Uxbridge, Private, Capt. Samuel Read's co. of militia, which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775, service 6 days
