"Joseph was a soldier in the Narragansett Campain of King Philip's War in 1675. His name appears on muster rolls dated 24 March 1675. He served in a company of 75 men from Roxbury, Dorchester, Milton, Braintree, Weynouth,Hinghan and Hull commanded by Captain Isaac Johnson. This was one of the two companies that led the attack on an Indian fort in the Great Swamp Fight of 19 Dec. 1675, in Rhode Island, Johnson and three other men from the cpmpany were killed and eight were wounded as they charged the fort and engaged in a three hour battle. Many years latter, in 1733, Joseph's son Joseph, was a claimant for land in present Bedford, New Hampshire, which was granted to men who served in that war or their heirs."
